THE SURFLAND OF JONI STERNBACH

Using a large-format nineteenth-century-style view camera and a portable darkroom,Joni Sternbach photographed surfers on New York and California shorelines and then made tintypes on the spot - asking the subject to remain still.

We love the way she transformed these surfers into anthropological icons.
