LIVE FROM THE BASEMENT!

It has been quite a while since I’ve seen a musical performance in such a pure, authentic style.

From The Basement is a back to basics music TV show. It allows the artists to come into the studio and perform intimate live performances without the usual TV format getting in the way. That means no audience and no presenter. Just great music.

Artists featured include; Radiohead, The Raconteurs, Iggy & The Stooges, Beck, Gnarls Barkley, Jose Gonzalez, Fleet Foxes, Eels,The Kills, Sonic Youth, Queen Of The Stone Age, CSS and many more.

MONOCLE SCENT 2 : LAUREL

Kawakubo created another Parfum together with Monocle.
I found it last weekend at Frenchtrotters. Tyler Brulée wrote that the scent was “inspired by a trip to the Bekaa Valley, it’s a fresh clean scent that has warm laurel notes.” It was developed by Antoine Maisondieu, who also launched the Hinoki scent. Even though some of my friends think it fots more for guys I use it every day and I can't get enough of it. You can get it in the Monocle shop

Like these guys from Best Made Axes say :
Axes shouldn’t only be in the hands of lumberjacks: anyone who respects the merits of an axe should have one in their name. An axe is indispensable and sublime, the epitome of fortitude and strength, a perfect design object, a timeless instrument.

WE LOVE ... GRAIN SURFBOARDS

For over a thousand years, surfboards were carefully shaped solid pieces of wood, hand-hewn from logs. These boards were very heavy and the excess of weight limited their range of performance.

In 1929, Tom Blake created the first board built around an internal frame - this made boards a bit lighter. Within six years, half the boards on California’s beaches were of this “cigar-box” construction.

Grain’s boards are a natural blend of this traditional construction style with New England boat building craftsmanship.

The beauty of Grain Surfboards lies in the blend of local softwoods and the artful patterns naturally produced by the growth of the wood itself.

If you have the opportunity to travel to the coast of Maine, Grain Surfboards offers wooden surfboard building classes in York.

You’ll learn alongside the same builders that craft their custom wooden surfboards from locally grown, sustainable white cedar.
By the end of a Grain class, you will walk away with your own hand-built, wooden surfboard.

THE HANSEN FAMILY LOVES ... S.N.S HERNING

S.N.S. HERNING was founded in 1931 by Soren Nielsen Skyt (1899-72). As a young man, he made a living from selling knitted garments of his own making in central Jutland, Denmark. In the late 1920'es, he learned about a way of knitting garments with "bubble" patterns that would serve as insulation and protect its wearer from the rough weather at sea. Knitting machines with so-called Jacquard strapping was being imported to Denmark from England & Germany - and Soren Nielsen Skyt bought one, and set out to have the machinery make these patterns.

WELCOME TO TODDLAND

Based on the company modus operandi being "just make rad stuff", Toddland has designed a cornucopia of men's styles that, as they say, "they want to have, and more importantly want to give to their friends". Inspired from everything they grew up with, the line is an array of everything from brightly colored track jackets, slim fit western shirts, vintage vacation photo tees, all the way to to a special limited edition one-piece jumpsuit.Toddland believes that vintage is rad, but it's a lot more rad without the butterfly collars, cigarette burns, and 30 year old patchouli scent. Plus vintage clothes could totally be haunted by their previous owners. Toddland brings you the same aesthetic as vintage, but with half the haunting and none of the mystery smells.
