WE LOVE HERSCHEL SUPPLY

The story of the canadian bag label Herschel begins in the early 1900’s in Scotland.

Peter Alexander Cormack, a barrel maker by trade, and his wife Annie packed the belongings of their small home in preparation for the long journey across the Atlantic to Canada. The government of the time was enticing families to immigrate through the homestead program. They gave these families land to farm, to support the growth of the country. The land that Peter and Annie were given saw them settle in the beautiful rolling hills outside of the town of Herschel.

Over a century after that move, Peter and Annie’s great grandchildren remain in the business of manufacturing. Instead of barrels, backpacks and bags are now created. Inspiration is drawn from vintage mountaineering and American heritage.

This heritage inspired model is a preview of their Spring 2011 collection.

WE LOVE THE EAMES HANG IT ALL 2010

With their Hang-It-All, Charles and Ray Eames made the everyday coat rack inventive and fun. Their whimsical original design features a white frame and multicolored hooks.
The Herman Miller Select 2010 Edition reinterprets this classic with solid walnut hooks against a black frame.

THE SURFLAND OF JONI STERNBACH

Using a large-format nineteenth-century-style view camera and a portable darkroom,Joni Sternbach photographed surfers on New York and California shorelines and then made tintypes on the spot - asking the subject to remain still.

We love the way she transformed these surfers into anthropological icons.
